IMDEA Networks

IMDEA Networks

IMDEA Networks is an international research institute located in Madrid, with the objective of performing worldclass research, carrying out technology transfer and attracting talented researchers to Madrid and Spain.

IMDEA is funded by the Regional Government of Madrid, other public bodies, and private institutions.

Its key expertise lies in the areas of wireless networking, networked systems and algorithms, and data science. IMDEA Networks offers an interdisciplinary environment, with 60+ staff members of faculty, postdocs, PhD students, research engineers and admin. IMDEA researchers consistently publish in top venues in their respective fields.

The Wireless Networking Group, led by Dr. Joerg Widmer, conducts research in emerging wireless technologies, such as extremely high-frequency communication for 5G and wireless LAN.

Our work on capacity enhancement also focuses on topics like ultra-dense networks, intelligent interference management, cooperative coding, and network coding, enhanced medium access control mechanisms using advanced physical layer technologies such as MIMO, successive interference cancellation, etc.

Additionally, we conduct research on network architectures for 5G and beyond.

In our research, we have deployed a wide variety of wireless testbeds (for mm-wave, 5G, IEEE 802.11, and others) where we implement and evaluate our ideas, bridging the gap between theoretical results and applied research.
