KU Leuven is by far the largest university in Belgium in terms of research funding and expenditure. It is a charter member of the LERU. It is ranked first in Thomson Reuters’ list of Europe’s Most Innovative Universities for more than five years in a row. The Electrical Engineering Department (ESAT) at KUL conducts research at a high international level, e.g., more than 9 professors in this department have obtained an ERC grant. The WaveCore division concentrates on wireless communications, RF signals, and microwave research, combining theoretical, implementation, and measurement expertise. The Networked System group within the WaveCore division conducts R&D with a focus on 6G wireless communications, joint communication and sensing, non-terrestrial networks, and IoT networks.
