NWE II in the Historic and Innovative City of Delft, The Netherlands
From October 6th to 9th, 2025, TU Delft hosted the second Network-Wide Event of the MSCA DN 6thSense, focusing on Joint Communication and Sensing (JCAS) in 6G Networks. This event also coincided with the Mid-Term Project Review Meeting with the Project Officer, providing a key opportunity for Doctoral Candidates (DCs), supervisors, and consortium partners to come together, exchange knowledge, and reflect on the progress of the project.
The event began on Monday with a warm welcome and practical introduction for the DCs, followed by the DCs’ researcher council session. After a lunch break, the full consortium joined for coffee, a welcome report from the Project Coordinator, and parallel work-package sessions. The day concluded with an insightful session by Walter Nitzold on “Who is industry looking for?”, offering DCs a view into industry expectations.
Tuesday focused on the Mid-Term Project Review with the Project Officer from the REA. The day started with coffee and brief remarks from the Project Officer and Project Coordinator, followed by a tour de table introducing all consortium members. The Project Officer then presented project monitoring, reporting, and the objectives of the mid-term check. Individual DC presentations formed a key part of the day, giving each candidate the chance to showcase their research progress. The day concluded with a project dinner for networking and informal discussions.
Wednesday and Thursday were dedicated to intensive training sessions for DCs, with some sessions open to interested consortium members. Highlights included “Life beyond OFDM: Walsh domain encoding” by Francois Rivet, “AI-Native 6G in the context of JCAS” by Rodney Martinez Alonso, and “How to write a system’s conference paper” by Qing Wang. Arash Asadi led a “PhD Pulse Check” session, helping DCs reflect on their progress and challenges. The final day focused on enhancing scientific presentation skills through extended workshops, equipping DCs with tools to communicate their research effectively. Social activities in the evenings further strengthened connections among participants.
Overall, four productive and engaging days at TU Delft allowed DCs, supervisors, and consortium partners to align project goals, develop new skills, and foster collaborations. The second 6thSense Network-Wide Event, alongside the mid-term review, reinforced the foundations for the network and generated excitement for the next phase of research in JCAS for 6G.
